Preserving Alaska's Native Languages

The Alaska Language Center at the University of Fairbanks is a research center that aims to document and cultivate the native languages of Alaska. The center publishes grammars, dictionaries, folklore collections and research materials pertaining to Alaska's 20 native languages. As of 2014, all of Alaska's native languages were classified as threatened, shifting, moribund, nearly extinct, or dormant languages with only 5% of the state population speaking one or more of these dialects.
