The State Macroinvertebrate
By designating the stonefly as its State macroinvertebrate, Delaware demonstrated its leadership as the First State, because currently, no other state in the United States has designated an official State macroinvertebrate to accompany their State symbols. Delaware decided to create the State macroinvertebrate category as a way to increase awareness of water quality issues and stream health.
