Where Orville Redenbacher Got His Start
Orville Redenbacher, the man whose name became synonymous with popcorn, was born in Brazil, Indiana in 1907 and spent decades at Purdue University developing a hybrid popcorn kernel that popped larger and fluffier than any variety on the market. He launched his brand in 1970 at the age of 63, becoming one of the most recognized faces in American grocery stores. When he died in 1995, Orville Redenbacher's Popcorn held about 45% of the entire U.S. popcorn market.
