One-Third of America's Pork

Iowa produces about one third of the entire nation's pork. The state is home to roughly 23 million hogs at any given time, more than three times its human population. Iowa's pork industry processes enough meat annually to provide every American with over 50 pounds of pork. The industry is so central to the state's identity that Iowa consistently ranks first in the nation for hog and pig production, a position it has held for over a century.
