Where Pizza Hut Began
Pizza Hut was founded in Wichita, Kansas in 1958 by brothers Dan and Frank Carney with a $600 loan from their mother. The brothers rented a small building, bought secondhand equipment, and opened their first restaurant on a bet that pizza could work in the Midwest. The first night they gave away free pizza to attract customers. Within a year they had opened a second location, and within a decade Pizza Hut had grown into one of the largest restaurant chains in the world.
