Enough Wheat to Feed the World

Kansas produces enough wheat each year to feed every person on earth for roughly two weeks. The state grows about 300 million bushels of winter wheat annually, accounting for about 20% of all wheat grown in the United States. Kansas wheat ends up in bread, pasta, and flour around the world, earning the state the nickname the Wheat State. The vast, flat expanse of the Kansas plains, which struck many early settlers as monotonous and inhospitable, turns out to be nearly perfectly suited for large-scale grain production.
