The Bourbon Capital of the World
Approximately 95% of all bourbon whiskey in the world is produced in Kentucky, and the state takes the distinction seriously. Kentucky law requires that any spirit labeled as Kentucky Bourbon must be distilled in the state, aged in new charred oak containers, and made from a mash of at least 51% corn. The industry is so embedded in the state's culture and economy that Kentucky has more barrels of aging bourbon than it has people, a ratio of roughly two barrels for every resident.
