America's First Sunrise
West Quoddy Head in Lubec, Maine is the easternmost point in the United States, the first place in the country to see the sunrise each morning. The red and white striped lighthouse there, built in 1808, is one of the most photographed in New England. Lubec itself is the easternmost town in the contiguous United States, and on a clear day you can see Canada from its downtown waterfront. The town is connected to Campobello Island, New Brunswick, by a small bridge.
