Stephen King's Castle Rock
Stephen King has set most of his novels in Maine, where he has lived for most of his life. His fictional Maine town of Castle Rock, which appears in more than a dozen of his books and serves as the setting for The Dead Zone, Cujo, and The Body (which became the film Stand By Me), is generally believed to be based on the small town of Bridgton. King has said that Maine's combination of deep woods, remote coastline, and tight-knit communities provides the perfect setting for stories about the fear hidden inside ordinary American life.
