First National Park East of the Mississippi

Maine's Acadia National Park, established in 1919, was the first national park east of the Mississippi River. Its Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the U.S. Atlantic coast at 1,530 feet — and from October through early March, it's the first place in the continental United States to see the sunrise.
