The Mayo Clinic
The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota has been ranked the top hospital in the United States more times than any other institution. It was founded in 1889 by physician William Worrall Mayo and his two sons after a tornado devastated Rochester and the local nuns asked the Mayos to run a new hospital. The brothers pioneered the concept of the integrated medical practice, bringing multiple specialists together to treat a single patient rather than having patients travel from doctor to doctor. Today the Mayo Clinic employs over 63,000 people and sees more than a million patients per year from every country on earth.
