Glacier Park's Vanishing Glaciers

Glacier National Park in Montana has about 25 named glaciers remaining, down from an estimated 150 when the park was established in 1910. Scientists have documented the retreat of these glaciers through repeat photography taken from the same vantage points over more than a century. The images show a dramatic and accelerating shrinkage. At current rates, the glaciers that give the park its name may be entirely gone by 2030. The park still contains some of the most pristine mountain wilderness in North America.
