Where the Homestead Act Came to Life
Homestead National Historical Park in Beatrice, Nebraska, commemorates the Homestead Act of 1862 — a law that transferred 270 million acres (about 10% of all U.S. land) to 1.6 million homesteaders. The park preserves the very first homestead claim ever filed, by Daniel Freeman.
