Live Free With No State Income Tax

New Hampshire is one of only two states that have no statewide income tax and no statewide sales tax, the other being Alaska. The state funds its government primarily through property taxes and other fees, a structure that keeps it consistently among the lowest-taxed states in the nation. The state motto, Live Free or Die, was written by Revolutionary War general John Stark and appears on license plates alongside images that have included the famous Old Man of the Mountain rock formation, which collapsed without warning in 2003.
