The Most Densely Populated State
New Jersey is the most densely populated state in the United States, with over 1,200 people per square mile, more than twice the density of Rhode Island, the second most dense. Despite its reputation as a heavily urbanized state, New Jersey also has a significant agricultural sector and is one of the top producers of blueberries, cranberries, peaches, and spinach in the country. The state's agricultural land is steadily shrinking under development pressure, but New Jersey still has over 700,000 acres in active farming.
