A Thousand-Year-Old Adobe Village

The city of Taos, New Mexico has been home to one of the most continuously inhabited communities in North America. Taos Pueblo, a multi-story adobe structure occupied by the Taos people, has been inhabited for over 1,000 years and is one of the oldest continuously occupied buildings in the United States. The pueblo is built without metal nails or wooden frames, using adobe bricks made from the local earth and straw. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and still has residents who live in the traditional structure without electricity or running water.
