The Mighty Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls on the New York-Canada border is not the tallest waterfall in the world, or even the tallest in North America, but it moves more water than any other waterfall on earth, with an average flow of 85,000 cubic feet per second during peak hours. The falls were a major tourist attraction as early as the 1830s and have been the site of dozens of daredevil stunts, beginning with Sam Patch, who jumped into the gorge from a platform in 1829 and survived. At least 15 people have gone over the falls in barrels or other vessels since 1901, and about half of them survived.
