A Champion Old-Growth Forest
Congaree National Park in South Carolina protects the largest intact expanse of old-growth bottomland hardwood forest remaining in the southeastern United States. Its canopy is one of the tallest in the world, averaging about 100 feet with several 'champion trees' topping 160 feet.
