Graceland, Elvis's Memphis Home
Graceland, Elvis Presley's home in Memphis, Tennessee, is the second most visited house in the United States, behind only the White House, receiving over 600,000 visitors per year. Elvis bought the house in 1957 for $102,500 when he was 22 years old, and lived there until his death in 1977. He never moved. Despite his enormous wealth, he remained in Memphis and decorated the house according to his own tastes, which ran to shag carpeting, mirrored ceilings, and a racquetball court. The Jungle Room, with its indoor waterfall and green shag carpet on the ceiling, became the most photographed interior in American pop culture history.
