America's Wind Energy Leader
Texas produces more wind energy than any other state in the United States and more than most countries in the world. The state's enormous landmass, flat terrain, and persistent winds make it exceptionally well suited for wind turbines, and Texas has invested in wind infrastructure so aggressively that it now generates more electricity from wind than the next two states combined. The state's independent power grid, ERCOT, operates separately from the rest of the country's grid, a legacy of Texas's historical inclination toward self-reliance that became a significant vulnerability during the 2021 winter storm that knocked out power for millions of residents.
