Where Microsoft, Amazon, and Boeing Began

Microsoft was founded in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen but relocated to the Seattle area in 1979 and eventually settled its headquarters in Redmond, Washington. Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos in a garage in Bellevue, Washington in 1994 and has grown into one of the largest companies in the world. Boeing, which manufactures most of its commercial aircraft in the Seattle area, was founded there in 1916. The concentration of major technology and aerospace companies in the Pacific Northwest has made the Seattle metropolitan area one of the most economically productive regions in the United States.
