America's Newest (and Oldest) National Park

New River Gorge became the United States' 63rd national park in December 2020. Despite the name, the New River is one of the oldest rivers in the world — geologists estimate it formed between 260 and 325 million years ago, long before the Appalachian Mountains it carves through.
