The Ringling Brothers' Circus Home

The Ringling Brothers Circus was founded in Baraboo, Wisconsin in 1884 by five brothers: Al, Otto, Alf T., Charles, and John Ringling, who had started performing in small variety shows as teenagers. Baraboo remained the winter headquarters for the circus until 1918, and the Circus World Museum there today preserves the original winter quarters buildings and the world's largest collection of historic circus wagons. The Ringling Brothers eventually merged with Barnum and Bailey's circus in 1919 to create what billed itself as The Greatest Show on Earth.
