Three Record-Breaking Trees, One State
California is home to the tallest, the largest, and the oldest trees on Earth, and they're all different species. Coastal Redwoods along the Northern California coast soar over 380 feet tall. Giant Sequoias in the Sierra Nevada are shorter but staggering in mass: General Sherman weighs an estimated 2.7 million pounds. And tucked away in the White Mountains, Methuselah, a Bristlecone Pine, has been alive for nearly 4,800 years, making it the oldest known living tree on the planet.
