The Unconquered People
The Seminole Tribe of Florida is the only Native American nation in the United States that never signed a peace treaty with the federal government. After three brutal wars fought largely in the swamps and hammocks of the Everglades, the U.S. government gave up trying to remove them and simply declared the conflict over. A small band of Seminoles melted into the wilderness and stayed. Their descendants still live in Florida today and proudly carry the name they gave themselves: the Unconquered People.
